Flags across the U.S.A. was started by the Veterans Flag Depot with goal of seeing every American household and business flying the U.S. flag on all flag holiday's especially Memorial Day.

As a child I remember how patriotic Americans were and most houses and businesses flew the U.S. Flag on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. I go out now on these dates and very few flags are out at all!

What happened America? We were all patriotic after 9-11 and sadly when the memory faded so did the flag flying and the patriotism that went with it.

Flags flying across the U.S.A. will be a constant reminder of national unity in the preservation of freedom from past to future.

Let's get our flags out America!

No other symbol so readily and clearly says "America." We are a nation of diversity. The one unifying symbol of America in war and peace is the United States Flag.

The U.S. Flag has led troops into battle since the Revolutionary War; it has inspired men and women to great deeds; it flies above our places of business as a testimony to the free enterprise system; it is displayed in our houses of worship as testimony to our freedom to worship God as our conscience dictates; it flies over our government buildings because it symbolizes our form of government; it is displayed in our schools as testimony to the importance of universal education and our desire for an educated populace; it is proudly flown from our front porches because we are proud to be Americans and we are proud of the contributions our nation has made.

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress resolved: "That the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." It's interesting to note that the United States Flag predates the adoption of the U.S. Constitution by 12 years. It's been a part of America longer than our most revered legal document.

“A  FLAG  RIDER”

Could a person ever imagine what it would be like to fly with the American Flag over patriotic crowds saluting and singing the National Anthem?   It is not really so far fetched as a combat wounded Vietnam War Veteran streaks across the sky “Riding Old Glory” over Normandy, France during the D-Day Commemorations there.

“Years ago, I saw this giant American Flag Parachute on the opening scenes of a Hollywood movie called Terminal Velocity, as actor Charlie Sheen was flying it between 20 story buildings.  I loved it and never forgot it.  Now I own it,” says the former U.S. Army Airborne Ranger.

Since acquiring the custom made 288 square foot ram-air 9 cell parachute, professional skydiver Dallas Wittgenfeld has used it to open the Thunder Birds Air Show, Wounded Warrior programs, numerous D-Day commemorations, Military Order of the Purple Heart promotions and was featured at the Purple Heart Hand in Hand productions in Branson, Mo.

“Look close at the landing into the Merville Battery National War Museum over Normandy, France.  Trailing is an authentic U.S. Capitol Flag and the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Flag, in honor of all combat wounded Veterans”, Wittgenfeld states.

“When I jump in France?  I carry down a French Foreign Legion patch that I recovered from a dead Viet Minh in the Vietnam War.  The Vietnamese combatant obviously cut it off a dead Frenchman at the losing battle of Dien Bien Phu.  I jump with it proudly, in memoriam, of those French paratroopers who died there before America got involved in the war of French Indo-China”, the Para-commando admits.

Soldier to Hike Across America

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Heroes of the Diamond “Red, White and Blue Tour” presented by Ashford University and Louisville Slugger proudly supports former US Army Specialist Troy Yocum as he hikes and drums across America. The journey, beginning April 17, will cross 30 states and 37 major cities in effort to “drum up” donations, support and awareness for military families who need financial assistance. Funds raised will be distributed through Soldiers' Angels, which is supplying the chase vehicle for Yocum’s journey.

Throughout the Hike, Yocum will loop the bases at over 20 Major and Minor League Baseball stadiums as part of the “Red, White and Blue Tour” to entertain fans and honor America with patriotic events including ceremonies to rename America's highways for fallen heroes of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

Throughout his Drum Hike, Yocum will carry a custom Louisville Slugger baseball bat for Mayors and Governors to sign, assisting the Soldiers' Angels’ bid to declare Oct. 26 “Day of the Deployed,” a national day of honor. The bat will be presented at the White House on May 11, 2011.

“It means the world to me to have Heroes of the Diamond behind me,” Yocum Says. “I don’t think I could’ve garnered the support I already have without them. More than any other organization, Heroes of the Diamond has believed in me from the beginning. Their continued support of my project has brought everything together.”

In addition to the tour, benefit events associated with the Hike will span the nation, including motorcycle rallies by Patriot Guard Riders, a Blue Star Mothers convention, mini marathons, concerts and meet-and-greets. “Flags across the U.S.A.” will follow Yocum in several cities with an official Flag Truck flying the largest American Flag and the Purple-Heart Parachutist,” Dallas Wittgenfeld, will skydive into cities, announcing Troy's arrival.

Founded in 1990, over 25,000 personnel have represented their service with a philosophy of HUSTLE - THINK - WIN! They are the "Globetrotters" of baseball, recognized as the largest, fastest growing and most successful military and first responders barnstorming team ever created delivering competitive, exciting "must see" patriotic entertainment enjoyed by millions.

The historic “Red, White and Blue Tour" has performed in 45 states and 12 countries while providing entertainment for some of the finest organizations in the world. The Heroes of the Diamond deliver unique patriotic events designed to entertain fans and honor America. They conduct a choreographed pre-game that includes "Passing the Flag" - "Walk of Honor" - and other ceremonies to promote positive community goodwill.

It’s the only team in history comprised of members from all branches of the United States Armed Forces as well as first responders and government agencies. The Heroes also feature celebrities and former professional athletes like former NFL quarterback, Doug Flutie who suited up recently at the MLB Legends Game and against the Boston Red Sox in 2009.

Their appearance is as unique as their mission, featuring full camouflagethemed uniforms extremely popular with fans featuring historical references to blend names and events with numbers on the backs of the jerseys that shaped our history. They resonate with patriotism and capture the imagination of the young and old wearing jerseys that feature numbers and names such as: # 6 D-Day, # 87 Four Score & Seven and # 0 Ground Zero to help educate fans and bring our history to life. In 2010, the Heroes of the Diamond celebrate their 21st season.

Yocum will live-stream his journey, presenting a video blog and interviewing US veterans on DrumHike.com while tracking his progress on Google Earth. All Americans are encouraged to join the Hike in various ways, proving that Yocum is not alone in his quest to help veterans.

"Our flag carries American ideas, American history and American feelings. It is not a painted rag. It is a whole national history. It is the Constitution. It is the Government. It is the emblem of the sovereignty of the people. It is the NATION."
